Selangor offers aid to residents stranded in Saudi Arabia

Selangor state government pledges assistance for residents stranded in Saudi Arabia amid regional unrest and rising travel costs near Ramadan.

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government is prepared to assist its residents stranded in Saudi Arabia due to regional unrest.

Menteri Besar Datuk Amirudin Shari said the state would collaborate with Wisma Putra and the consulate to assess necessary support, including financial aid.

Two state executive councillors are currently in Saudi Arabia to gather information directly from the Malaysian Consulate General Office.

“To Malaysians, especially Selangor residents who are facing certain constraints, do not hesitate to contact the consulate,” Amirudin said.

He added that the state government would pay serious attention to the matter in an executive council meeting.

Amirudin earlier expressed appreciation to the Malaysian Consulate General in Jeddah for assisting seven stranded Selangor students.

It is understood that approximately 1,600 Malaysian Umrah pilgrims are currently stranded in Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah.

The Menteri Besar made these remarks after a voucher presentation ceremony for Selangor state secretariat support workers.

When asked about a failed constitutional amendment bill, Amirudin said party whips must ensure MP attendance for important votes.

He suggested discussions with the Prime Minister to secure a stronger majority for the bill in the next parliamentary session.
