MIRI: Seven teenagers survived while a 13-year-old boy died in Kuala Baram, northern Sarawak, after their public holiday outing at a pond turned tragic.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the body of the victim was discovered by rescue divers at the bottom of the three-metre-deep pond at about 1.30pm.
The deceased has been identified as Jackson Mara, a 13-year-old local teenager.
In a statement, the department said it received an emergency call at about 11am reporting that a boy had gone missing in the pond.
“Rescue teams rushed to the scene and found that the 13-year-old had disappeared while playing in the water with seven other friends.
“The seven others were found safe.
“The missing boy was later located at the bottom of the pond by rescuers.
“He was brought to the surface and pronounced dead at 1.30pm by medical personnel at the scene,” the department said.
The body was subsequently handed over to Miri police, it added.
