Sultan of Pahang advises public to remain vigilant during monsoon season, warning of flash floods and landslides from Tropical Storm Senyar.
KUANTAN: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has reminded the public to remain vigilant during the ongoing monsoon season.
His Royal Highness issued a statement urging all residents, particularly those in high-risk areas, to stay alert to prevailing conditions and take appropriate safety measures.
“I wish to advise the public, particularly those in flood-prone areas, to exercise caution during this monsoon season, as heavy and continuous rainfall is expected,” he said.
He specifically called for parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their children and grandchildren to prevent any untoward incidents.
Al-Sultan Abdullah highlighted warnings about Tropical Storm Senyar, detected in the Strait of Malacca, which is likely to affect several states.
“This is a rare occurrence,” he noted.
He warned that persistent heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods, uprooted trees, and landslides anywhere and at any time.
The Sultan also called on the public to pray for protection from all disasters and to perform solat hajat at mosques and at home.
He urged residents to follow authorities’ instructions, including relocating to relief centres to ensure their safety.
Road users were advised to exercise extra caution when driving or riding motorcycles due to increased accident risks in rainy conditions.
Al-Sultan Abdullah expressed hope that all relief centres in the state would be kept clean and orderly.
He called on all parties to cooperate in maintaining hygiene, including in shared toilet facilities.
