Three killed in Olak Lempit factory fire near Banting

Three charred bodies found after a major fire destroyed an oil processing factory and three other premises in the Olak Lempit Industrial Area.

SHAH ALAM: Three people were killed in a major fire at the Olak Lempit Industrial Area in Banting.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the victims’ charred bodies were found during an inspection of the scene.

Assistant director (Operations) Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the blaze involved four adjacent premises, including an oil processing factory.

“The bodies were discovered during overhaul operations at the oil processing factory, which was completely destroyed,” he said in a statement.

The department was alerted to the incident at about 11.03 pm and mobilised 69 personnel and officers from multiple stations.

The fire was brought under control by about 1.15 am.

Fire and rescue teams from Banting, KLIA, Dengkil, Cyberjaya, Bangi, Petaling Jaya, and Precinct 7 Putrajaya were involved in the operation.

Additional support came from the Nilai station in Negeri Sembilan and volunteer fire brigades from Sri Serdang, Seri Kembangan and Rantau Panjang, Klang.
