Tropical Storm Senyar causes landslides in Seremban, floods in six states, with over 31,000 people evacuated nationwide as rivers exceed danger levels
SEREMBAN: Tropical Storm Senyar has caused landslides and widespread flooding across multiple Malaysian states after entering the Straits of Melaka waters yesterday afternoon.
The Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department reported landslides and fallen trees in Seremban and Port Dickson areas early this morning.
A landslide occurred at Jalan Bukit Berlian 2, Taman Bukit Berlian, Seremban at 3.55 am, forcing six residents to evacuate their homes.
A 61-year-old motorcyclist was injured after hitting a fallen tree near AEON Seremban 2 and was taken to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital for treatment.
A Proton Saga car was struck by a fallen tree in the Ehsan Sea View Hotel area, Port Dickson, though no casualties were reported.
Flood victims increased in Selangor, Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis and Perak as of 8 am this morning while Kelantan and Perlis recorded decreases.
Terengganu recorded 4,191 flood victims from 1,274 families across 60 temporary evacuation centres, up from 3,667 people last night.
Marang district recorded the highest number of victims at 1,305 people, followed by Kemaman with 1,219 and Setiu with 1,105.
Five river stations in Terengganu have exceeded danger levels according to publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my.
Kedah’s flood victims increased to 4,543 people from 1,454 families sheltered in 22 evacuation centres.
Kubang Pasu district recorded the highest number with 2,499 victims, followed by Kota Setar with 1,928.
Perak recorded 5,861 flood victims from 1,776 families across 45 evacuation centres, up from 5,351 people yesterday.
Manjung district remained worst affected with 2,270 victims, followed by Hilir Perak with 1,635.
Selangor’s flood victims increased to 2,718 people from 719 families across 16 evacuation centres in three districts.
Sepang areas including Kampung Salak Sepang and Kampung Chingchang flooded following continuous rain since yesterday.
Pahang’s flood victims surged to 486 people from 160 families, with Kuantan becoming the latest affected district.
Negeri Sembilan opened two evacuation centres in Port Dickson after continuous rain caused flooding.
State Civil Defence Force director Lt Col Mohd Nazri Mes Kam confirmed 28 victims from four families had been evacuated.
Kelantan recorded decreasing flood victims at 6,318 people from 2,308 families across 40 evacuation centres.
Tumpat recorded the highest number with 3,581 victims, followed by Bachok with 1,458.
Two flood-related deaths have been recorded in Kelantan, including one non-citizen victim.
Perlis recorded 7,609 flood victims across 24 operating evacuation centres in Padang Besar, Arau and Kangar. – Bernama
