UniSZA student killed as Honda Jazz runs red light

Dashcam shows speeding Honda Jazz smashing into her Perodua Viva at a Terengganu junction after running a red light

PETALING JAYA: A UniSZA student tragically lost her life after a speeding Honda Jazz rammed into her Perodua Viva near a traffic light junction close Terengganu Road Transport Department (JPJ) building, yesterday.

Chilling dashcam footage showed the Honda Jazz, driven by a man travelling from the city centre failing to stop at a red light before crashing into the victim’s car within seconds.

The collision, which occurred at about 1.31pm, was so severe that a street light was seen toppling over at the junction.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Syakirah Hanan Mazli, was a student of Contemporary Islamic Studies.

Prior to the incident, she was travelling towards Jalan Bukit Kecil after revising at the Terengganu State Public Library, according to a report by Kosmo.

Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander Mohd Salleh Abdullah said a team of firefighters took about 20 minutes to extricate the body of Syakirah Hanan, who was trapped inside the Perodua Viva.

He said the female student’s body was handed over to the police before being sent to the Forensic Unit of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here for further action.

“The male driver of the Honda Jazz, who was injured, was rushed to the emergency unit of the same hospital to receive treatment,” he said.
