JOHOR BAHRU: Water supply has been restored to 448,057 of the 455,499 accounts impacted by unscheduled disruptions from Sungai Johor pollution.

Ranhill SAJ confirmed Johor Bahru recorded the highest number of restored accounts at 296,650, followed by Kota Tinggi with 123,373 and Kulai with 121,906.

A total of 7,442 accounts remain without water supply, primarily in Johor Bahru with 5,837 affected accounts.

The water operator is deploying 43 tankers to ensure consumers continue receiving supplies during the ongoing raw water pollution crisis.

Johor authorities confirmed the raw water turbidity level in Sungai Johor Basin surged to 37,400 NTU compared to the normal level of around 400 NTU.

The pollution incident resulted from soil movement causing the collapse of a sixth sand washing pond at an inland sand mining site in Kota Tinggi.

The pond collapse contaminated Sungai Johor, triggering the widespread water supply disruptions across multiple districts. – Bernama
