Works Ministry to review losses at 12 highway concessions

The Works Ministry will conduct a detailed review of 12 highway concessions that recorded losses due to low traffic volumes, citing significant financial implications for the country.

SEREMBAN: The Works Ministry will conduct a detailed review of 12 highway concessions that recorded losses last year due to low traffic volumes.

Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said a thorough discussion is necessary given the matter’s significant financial implications for the country.

“I cannot make a hasty statement, as the financial impact is substantial,” he told reporters after launching the TuJu highway navigation application.

He urged patience, stating that an official statement would only be issued after all details have been examined.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan had earlier identified the affected highways in Parliament.

The loss-making concessions include the Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Maju Expressway and KL-Karak Expressway.

Other affected highways are Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway, Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway and Senai-Desaru Expressway.

The list also includes South Klang Valley Expressway and Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway.

Kajang-Seremban Highway, Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway and Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel complete the group.

West Coast Expressway and Butterworth Outer Ring Road were also among the 12 concessions recording losses.
