The inaugural Perlis Squid Festival 2026 is set to become an annual tourism event, showcasing coastal heritage and boosting the state’s visitor appeal
KANGAR: The inaugural Perlis Squid Festival 2026 has the potential to become a new tourism product for the state.
Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah said the two-day event, which concluded today, also served as the opening event for the Perlis Tourism Calendar 2026.
“This festival involved nearly 100 participants with over 50 fishing boats and gave the public a chance to experience squid catching activities firsthand,” he told reporters at the closing ceremony in Kuala Perlis.
Abu Bakar said the festival will be continued annually as it is not just a recreational event.
He stated it is a platform to promote coastal heritage, the culture of the fishing community, and the natural beauty of Perlis.
“Although this inaugural event had some constraints, including in terms of promotion, the response was very encouraging,” he said.
He added that the event will be improved from time to time to ensure it can grow as a seasonal tourism attraction.
