PLUS forecasts 2.2 million daily vehicles during CNY and Ramadan

PLUS expects up to 2.2 million vehicles daily on highways during peak CNY and Ramadan travel, urging use of its MyPLUS-TTA app for smoother journeys.

KUALA LUMPUR: PLUS Malaysia Berhad anticipates a major surge in traffic on its operated highways, including the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), during the Chinese New Year period which coincides with the start of Ramadan.

Daily traffic volumes are projected to reach up to 2.2 million vehicles during peak travel days. The highest outbound traffic from the Klang Valley is expected on February 12, 13 and 14.

Return journeys to the Klang Valley are forecast to peak on February 20 and 21.

PLUS strongly advises all highway users to plan their journeys and utilise the MyPLUS-TTA digital travel schedule feature. This planning is encouraged for travel between February 11 and 22 across the PLUS and LPT2 networks.

Users can access real-time traffic data via the MyPLUS-TTA feature on the PLUS application to assist their planning. This proactive approach is expected to help mitigate traffic congestion.

The MyPLUS-TTA is a digital initiative developed from real-time traffic data analysis. It is designed to recommend optimal travel times for highway users.

Through this platform, users obtain estimated travel times, current traffic conditions and incident notifications. This facilitates better journey planning and promotes more balanced traffic distribution.

Traffic data from the 2025 Chinese New Year period showed time savings of 30 minutes to one hour for users who followed MyPLUS-TTA recommendations. For example, journeys from Jalan Duta to Juru were reduced from an average of five and a half hours to about four and a half to five hours.

In contrast, users travelling outside recommended slots experienced journeys up to three hours longer. This shows how greatly journey times are influenced by travel timing.

Traffic is expected to surge as users travel for holidays and return to hometowns. They will celebrate Chinese New Year with family while also marking the beginning of the fasting month.

For more information and access to the digital travel advisory, highway users are encouraged to download or update the PLUS application. This ensures a smoother, safer, and more comfortable travel experience throughout the festive season.
