PM Anwar receives 19-gun salute in Kenya

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was honoured with a 19-gun salute during his official welcome at Kenya’s State House, highlighting growing bilateral ties between Malaysia and its third-largest African trading partner.

NAIROBI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received an official welcome ceremony today featuring a 19-gun salute at Kenya’s State House.

The ceremony at President William Samoei Ruto’s official residence began with the playing of both national anthems.

Anwar was received by President Ruto and introduced to Kenya’s top military commanders.

The leaders also witnessed a walk-by by the Guard of Honour and the Brass Band.

Present at the ceremony were Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Zaliha Mustafa.

Following the ceremony, Anwar signed the State House guest book before both leaders proceeded to their bilateral meeting.

Kenya has emerged as Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner in Africa with total trade reaching RM5.7 billion in 2024.

This represents a 1.2% increase from the RM5.51 billion recorded in the previous year.

The East African nation is bordered by South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda and the Indian Ocean.

Anwar is scheduled to depart from Nairobi later today, concluding his three-country tour of Africa.
