PM Anwar visits bedridden stroke patient in Sabah, advises her to speak kindly to her caregiver daughter during Ziarah Programme home visits
PUTATAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim advised a stroke patient to maintain kindness toward her caregiver during a personal visit to her home.
“Don’t be upset with the child who is caring for you, speak to them kindly,” Anwar told 68-year-old Tandu @ Tarsilla Soliat in Kampung Duvanson.
The patient’s daughter Theresia Alexander said her mother responded with a simple nod to the Prime Minister’s message.
Theresia revealed her mother suffered a seizure in June and was diagnosed with neurosyphilis, a bacterial infection of the central nervous system.
“She was in a coma for nearly two months at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital,” she explained.
Theresia said her mother has started recovering slightly but still cannot eat and receives milk through a feeding tube.
Their family never expected the Prime Minister would visit their bedridden mother, according to Theresia.
“We were deeply moved and thrilled to meet the national leader in person,” she added.
The Prime Minister presented a donation during his visit to the family home.
“Our entire family admires him for his approachable and people-friendly nature,” Theresia stated.
Anwar’s village visit was part of the Ziarah Programme under the Petagas State Legislative Assembly constituency.
He personally visited three homes of elderly residents during the programme.
Each family received a food basket and RM1,000 in cash assistance from the Prime Minister.
Pakatan Harapan candidate for Petagas Datuk Awang Husaini Sahari accompanied Anwar during the visits.
The PH chairman also visited 76-year-old Rogina @ Boto Soliat, who suffered a hip fracture from a fall.
Her son Henty Jamsil said his mother has remained bedridden since the accident a year ago.
“Her treatment is carried out regularly at the Ketiau Clinic in Putatan,” he explained.
Henty expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the Prime Minister.
Anwar’s final stop was at 63-year-old Allen Patrick’s home in Kampung Sipanggil.
The Kampung Sipanggil home was approximately 15 minutes from Kampung Duvanson.
The Prime Minister is in Sabah for a two-day visit concluding tomorrow.
His schedule includes the Youth Dialogue programme at ITCC Penampang.
Anwar will also attend a dinner with Kota Kinabalu’s Chinese community.
Other events include a Ceramah Perdana talk session and PM Sayang Sabah meet-and-greet.
The community leader meeting will take place in Tulid constituency, Keningau. – Bernama
