PM Anwar welcomes students back to school for 2026 session

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim extends a warm welcome to students, especially Year 1 pupils, as the new 2026 school year begins nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended a warm welcome to all students as the 2026 school session commences.

In a Facebook post, he offered a special greeting to Year 1 pupils taking their first steps into formal education.

“Welcome back to school, especially to Year 1 pupils, as they take their first steps into education full of hopes and dreams,” he said.

Anwar also called on parents to support their children’s educational journey.

“To parents, guide your children’s journey with prayers and by setting a good example,” he advised.

He expressed hope that the knowledge gained would shape students into ethical individuals who can contribute to the nation.

The academic calendar for national and government-aided schools has resumed its traditional January start this year.

This follows several years of adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic since 2022.

The school term for Group B schools began today across multiple states and federal territories.

These include Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, the term for Group A schools in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu started smoothly yesterday.

That session involves nearly one million students across the three states.
