PM orders ministries to accelerate digital shift for public service

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim directs all ministries to move services online, linking improved efficiency to the new RM18 billion civil service pay system.

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed all ministries and government departments to expedite the shift to online processes as part of bureaucratic reforms.

Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Department assembly, Anwar said the digitalisation drive applies to the Cabinet to save time, improve service quality and reduce administrative red tape.

He urged all ministry secretaries-general and director-generals to ensure all processes are conducted online unless bound by legal requirements.

Anwar stressed that the implementation of national digital systems must be carried out seriously and consistently, rather than remaining mere rhetoric.

He also said artificial intelligence could be utilised to prepare draft responses to official correspondence for officers to refine.

The Prime Minister linked service quality to the improved Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), noting the public is entitled to faster services.

Anwar said the people have the right to demand improvements, given the government’s RM18 billion adjustment to the SSPA.

He cited excessively long waiting times, delayed responses and cumbersome form-filling as issues that must be rectified immediately.

“The people ask questions, and they have every right to do so,” he said.

“They expect that the quality of service must be more efficient and faster.”

The assembly was attended by Cabinet members and top government officials.
