PEKAN NANAS: Police are investigating a case involving the Malaysian flag being installed upside-down on a vehicle here.
The incident, which involved a Toyota Avanza MPV, went viral on social media recently.
Pontian Police chief Superintendent Mohammad Shofee Tayib said police detected a Facebook post regarding the incident.
The vehicle was parked in front of a furniture shop along Jalan Besar in Pekan Nanas.
“The act caused various reactions among the community,” he said in a statement today.
He confirmed that the vehicle owner has fully cooperated throughout the initial investigation.
Immediate action was taken to correct the position of the flag once the matter was identified.
The case is being investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names Act 1963.
It is also being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
“Police also wish to remind all agencies, business premises and individuals to ensure that the display of the Jalur Gemilang is done in accordance with the procedures and protocols set as a sign of respect for the country’s sovereignty,” he said. – Bernama
