Kuala Terengganu police urge public to stay away from beaches during Northeast Monsoon due to dangerous waves and debris risks
KUALA TERENGGANU: Police have urged the public to avoid all beach activities during the Northeast Monsoon season.
Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor issued the warning following turbulent sea conditions and large waves hitting the state.
He identified Batu Buruk Beach, Pandak Beach, Seberang Takir Beach and Tok Jembal Beach as popular locations that pose particular danger.
“The current conditions are not suitable and are extremely dangerous for any activity by the beach,” he said in a statement today.
Azli warned that large waves bring stones, logs and debris that can cause serious injuries.
He advised the public to avoid all water activities throughout the monsoon period.
The police chief also reminded beachgoers to comply with warning signs and red flags installed by the Kuala Terengganu City Council.
He urged residents to heed evacuation orders and safety warnings if weather conditions deteriorate.
“Parents also need to monitor the movement of their children in low-lying areas prone to flooding,” Azli added.
He expressed concern about potential drowning incidents or people being trapped in strong currents.
Police will increase patrols in high-risk areas to ensure public safety during the monsoon season. – Bernama
