Amirudin Shari confirms he will remain Selangor MB until term ends

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari confirms he will complete his term with no executive reshuffle, while acknowledging Nurul Izzah as a potential successor option.

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has reiterated that he will remain at the helm of the state’s leadership until the end of his term.

He confirmed there will be no state executive lineup reshuffle during that period.

“One year left to finish this term, and if we want to reshuffle the state executive lineup, we will need more time,” he told reporters after officiating the Selangor Economic Action Plan 2025-2035.

“So far, there is no idea or any hint of that.”

Although PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar had been mentioned as a candidate for the Menteri Besar’s post, Amirudin said it is just a proposal that still needs discussion.

The matter would also require the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

“We are now throwing that as an option,” he said.

“If the option is accepted, Alhamdullillah. Otherwise, we have to look at other alternatives.”

Amirudin noted that all current executive councillors are eligible to become Menteri Besar.

He mentioned Najwan Mohd Najwan Halimi, Dr Mohamad Fahmi Ngah, Datuk Borhan Aman Shah and Datuk Izham Hashim as potential candidates.

Amirudin said planning for changes to important positions is made in an orderly manner and not just out of the blue.

However, he emphasised that the Selangor government must first win the state election before any talks about governing positions in the next term can proceed.

Amirudin previously admitted to proposing that Nurul Izzah be appointed to replace him as Selangor Menteri Besar.

He had told the “Keluar Sekejap” podcast recently that the proposal had been relayed to Nurul Izzah, leaving the decision to accept it up to her.
