Barisan Nasional pledges steadfast support to PM Anwar Ibrahim’s administration, dismissing claims of pressure or defection plans.
BUTTERWORTH: Barisan Nasional (BN) remains a steadfast and unwavering partner in the Unity Government until the end of its term, chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi declared.
He firmly dismissed claims that the coalition intends to pressure or undermine the existing administration led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Ahmad Zahid stated BN has consistently supported the prime minister’s leadership and acted as a strategic partner since the government’s formation.
“BN has never issued threats, has never wavered, and remains loyal as a faithful partner in the Unity Government,” he said at the Makkal Sakti annual general assembly.
He emphasised that meetings with other parties do not indicate plans to defect or bring down the government.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that loyalty is a fundamental pillar for any political organisation, especially within a large coalition like BN.
“Leaders may come and go, but loyalty must never be compromised,” Ahmad Zahid said.
He added that BN values the loyalty shown by its component and allied parties amidst political pressure.
On policy, Ahmad Zahid said BN wants to ensure all promises in the Unity Government parties’ manifestos are fully delivered.
A retreat involving ministers and party leaders will be held on January 10 and 11 to assess manifesto implementation progress.
“We want to see how far the manifestos of BN, Pakatan Harapan, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and other parties have been implemented,” he stated.
The retreat will also seek common ground on issues like the cost of living, unemployment, education, and security.
It aims to identify commitments that have yet to be fulfilled for the people’s benefit. – Bernama
