PM Anwar says BN’s victories in the Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections demonstrate the public’s continued confidence in grassroots efforts and service.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Barisan Nasional’s (BN) victories in the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state assembly by-elections reflect the public’s continued confidence in grassroots efforts, service, and commitment.
In a Facebook post today, Anwar said the wins should be met with a sense of responsibility as a public trust demanding leadership with integrity, effective service levels, and the ability to address community needs inclusively and consistently.
“The MADANI government will continue to uphold the spirit of consensus and togetherness to ensure development in Sabah is strengthened, the people’s well-being is preserved, and the MADANI agenda can be realised with shared determination,” he said.
The Prime Minister also congratulated BN on successfully defending both the parliamentary and state seats and the new representatives for the areas, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar and Mohd Ismail Ayob, on their victories.
He also prayed that the legacy of service and leadership of the late former representative, Allahyarham Bung Moktar Radin, would be preserved and continued as best as possible.
In the Kinabatangan by-election, Mohd Kurniawan Naim won handsomely with a large majority of 14,214 votes, defeating his two challengers, Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman from Parti Warisan and Independent candidate Goldam Hamid.
In the Lamag state seat by-election, Mohd Ismail obtained a majority of 5,681 votes, defeating Mazliwati Abdul Malek from Warisan.
The Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state assembly by-elections were held following the death of the incumbent, Bung Moktar, 66, on 5 December last year.
