DAP delegates will vote on Aug 16 on whether the party should remain in the Federal Government, with Nga Kor Ming saying they will prioritise national interests and political stability
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP delegates will make the “wisest choice” in the national interest when deciding the party’s position in the Federal Government at its Aug 16 congress, said party deputy chairman Nga Kor Ming.
Nga, who is also Housing and Local Government Minister, expressed confidence that more than 4,000 delegates would take the country’s political stability into account when casting their votes.
“On Aug 16, DAP will have more than 4,000 delegates.
“I am confident that, as a party that loves the country and has struggled for the past 60 years, the wisdom of more than 4,000 delegates will prevail.
“They will vote according to the interests of the country, safeguard the country’s stability and make the wisest choice in line with the country’s stability. That is my belief,” he told reporters after launching the National Housing Policy 2026–2035 today.
Nga, however, did not state his personal position on whether DAP ministers and deputy ministers should remain in the Federal administration.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke had announced that about 4,000 delegates attending the party’s national congress on Aug 16 would vote by secret ballot on whether DAP should remain in government positions for the remainder of the current parliamentary term.
The party currently holds five ministerial and seven deputy ministerial posts.
Loke had said that, regardless of the outcome, DAP would continue supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and remain a component of Pakatan Harapan.
The vote comes following PH’s defeat in the Aug 1 Negri Sembilan state election, where Loke also lost the Chennah state seat, which he had held for 13 years.
