Election Commission issues nomination day guidelines for Sabah state election candidates, including submission times, required documents and deposit payments.
KOTA KINABALU: The Election Commission has reminded prospective candidates for the 17th Sabah state election to submit nomination papers between 9 am and 10 am this Saturday.
EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said nomination papers must be submitted to returning officers at 25 nomination centres by the candidate, proposer and seconder.
“Or they may be submitted by any two of them, or by any one of them,” he said in a statement today.
He advised candidates to complete forms and conduct preliminary checks with returning officers or the Sabah election office before nomination day.
Khairul Shahril also recommended making deposit payments in advance.
“The payment receipt must be brought on nomination day as proof of payment,” he said.
Candidates representing political parties must present authorisation letters allowing use of party symbols when submitting nomination papers.
Those who have paid campaign material deposits are subject to the Election Offences Act 1954 and local authority by-laws.
He reminded all candidates and parties to comply with laws, regulations, codes of ethics, and directives from the EC, local authorities and police.
The EC has set polling day for the 17th Sabah state election on November 29.
Early voting will take place on November 25. – Bernama
