Grumpy cat ’employee’ at RapidKL station goes viral

Chubby feline perched on Datuk Keramat station fare gate becomes internet sensation for judgy stare

COMMUTERS at a Kuala Lumpur train station have discovered that even the friendliest workplace can have one employee with a perpetually serious expression—especially when that employee happens to be a cat.

A lighthearted complaint posted on Threads recently sent Malaysian social media into fits of laughter after a passenger humorously called out an “unwelcoming staffer” at the Datuk Keramat RapidKL station.

The twist? The employee in question was a plump cat who had claimed a spot atop a ticketing gate, surveying passengers with an expression many interpreted as distinctly unimpressed.

The original poster playfully suggested that RapidKL management should encourage their counter staff to be more cheerful, noting that even the simple act of scanning a travel card felt nerve-wracking under such intense feline scrutiny.

Accompanying images revealed the cat positioned directly on the fare gate machinery, paws strategically placed near the card reader as though personally evaluating each commuter’s worthiness to pass.

As expected, Malaysians transformed the comment section into an impromptu comedy show, with users contributing their own humorous takes on the situation.

Several people noted that the feline appeared to maintain its post for extended periods, with some joking it was covering double shifts due to a colleague’s absence.

One particularly creative comment suggested the cat had exhausted its annual leave allowance and was now stuck working overtime, including New Year’s Eve night shifts.

Another sarcastically urged patience from passengers, pointing out that their furry gatekeeper hadn’t even received a break yet.

Despite the playful grumbling about intimidating stares, most commenters confessed they would be more interested in giving the cat affection than worrying about their commute.

While a few joked about their mood being affected, the general consensus was that this unexpected encounter made for a far more entertaining RapidKL experience than usual.

The incident has given Malaysians yet another reason to smile during their daily commute—even if the cat itself refuses to do the same.
