GRS to expel members running as independents in Sabah polls

GRS chairman Hajiji Noor warns party members contesting as independents will face expulsion, calling the matter non-negotiable.

TUARAN: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah will take firm action against any member of its component parties who contests as an independent candidate in the 17th Sabah State Election.

Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said he had received reports that such candidacies could create conflicts with GRS component party candidates.

“For friendly contests between parties, we can accept that,” he told reporters after the nomination process at Dewan Seri Sulaman.

“However, for PGRS and GRS members who contest as independents, we will take action to expel them from the party.”

He described this position as non-negotiable.

Hajiji previously retained the Sulaman seat with a majority of 3,099 votes in the last state election.

Polling is scheduled for November 29, with early voting on November 25.

The Sulaman constituency has 18,352 registered voters.

Five candidates are contesting the Sulaman seat in this election.

They include incumbent Hajiji Noor representing GRS-Gagasan Rakyat.

Other candidates are Tiaminah @ Siti Aminah Ele from PN-Bersatu and Dr Shahnon Rizal Thaijuddin from BN-UMNO.
