DAP chief Anthony Loke denies Umno president’s allegation of internal factions, calling claims nonsensical
PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke (pic) has denied claims that there is a “Team B” within his party.
Loke described the statement made by Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as “nonsensical” and said that DAP has never issued any statement suggesting such a faction exists.
“Is it logical for me to say that? It would be foolish for me to be in politics and tell others there is a ‘Team B’ in this party, and then inform another party.
“I strongly deny it and have never spoken to Zahid about this issue. In DAP, there is no Team A, B, or C; we only have one team, which is Team DAP,” he reportedly said during his speech at the 2026 Selangor DAP Annual Convention in Klang today.
Loke also addressed earlier remarks by Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin, which were seen as celebratory when Datuk Seri Najib Razak continued serving his sentence at Kajang prison.
“I did mention on a podcast that such an approach was unnecessary; there was no need to cheer. In DAP, there can be differences of opinion, but we handle those differences internally, in meetings.
“But externally, we are a united, disciplined party, and no one can divide us.
“What happened is an old ‘divide and rule’ tactic. It may work in other parties, but it will not work in DAP.
“Say whatever you want, but DAP as a party in government is united, and our leadership is strong,” he said.
The claims follow Zahid’s closing speech at the 2025 UMNO General Assembly, in which he alleged that statements contradicting the DAP leadership were issued by a so-called “Team B.”
“The ones who issued the statements were from Team B in DAP.
“They also have a Team B in the party. I met with their secretary-general (Loke) and asked why these leaders made such statements against Najib and Dr Akmal,” Zahid was reported saying yesterday.
