Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission receives three reports related to the Johor state election, including one involving a candidate.

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has received three reports related to the 16th Johor state election, including one alleging corruption involving an election candidate.

MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the commission has so far received one complaint from the Election Campaign Enforcement Team (PP-KPR) in Batu Pahat, while the other two were general public reports.

He said all the information received is being assessed and investigated in accordance with the relevant laws.

“If there is corruption in the ongoing election, regardless of the party, candidate, voter or supporter involved, corruption is corruption.

“I will not comment further, but in this case, it involves a candidate,” he told a press conference at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today when asked about allegations of corruption involving a candidate in Batu Pahat.

Meanwhile, Abd Halim said the MACC has activated election operations rooms in Johor Bahru, Segamat, Kluang, Batu Pahat and Mersing to facilitate the public in reporting allegations of abuse of power and corruption throughout the election period.

He said the MACC would not compromise on election-related corruption and would take firm action against anyone involved, regardless of their background, in order to safeguard the integrity of the democratic process.

“A clean election not only ensures the integrity of the democratic system but also strengthens public confidence in the nation’s institutions,” he said.

He also reminded all candidates, political parties, supporters and voters to comply with the law throughout the campaign period and on polling day.

A total of 2.7 million eligible ordinary voters are expected to cast their ballots this Saturday (July 11) to elect 56 state assembly representatives for the next term.
