Despite hectic coverage schedules, media personnel across Johor fulfilled their voting obligations as responsible citizens.

JOHOR BAHRU: Though busy chasing news and capturing key moments of the 16th Johor State Election, media practitioners kept their voting responsibility a top priority.

Despite busy schedules, media personnel made time to cast their ballots and fulfil their duty.

Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Radio senior manager Endok Baleana Bachok, 48, travelled back from Kuala Lumpur to fulfil her responsibility as a voter for the Puteri Wangsa state seat at Balai Raya Taman Gembira here.

She did not want to miss the chance to vote despite working outside Johor.

Bernama stringer Nur Fatin Kadenen, 33, voted for the Tiram state seat at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Tiram after covering the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail, in Taman Molek in the morning.

“I am open to any candidate or party elected in the Tiram constituency, as long as they work hard and are diligent and attentive to every aspect of development in this area,” she said.

Bernama TV cameraman Muhammad Arif Ahmad Nasir, 32, voted at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Abong for the Simpang Jeram state seat around 1.30 pm today.

“I have voted by post before, but this time I did not apply because I knew I would be assigned to cover Muar, so I could vote normally,” he said.

Bernama photographers Mohd Hazrol Zainal, 32, and Fathin Suhaira Abdul Rahim, 34, voted at SK Pengkalan Raja, Pekan Nanas, for the Pekan Nanas state seat and at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Foon Yew 4, Larkin, for the Larkin state constituency, here, respectively.

New Straits Times Press (NSTP) photographer Najmi Nor’Azam, 25, voted for the Bukit Serampang state seat at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ladang Bukit Serampang at 8.30 am.

He arrived early to fulfil his responsibility as a voter before continuing his duties.

TV3 cameraman Ismail Osman, 62, arrived at Dewan Kampung Majidee as early as 7.30 am.

“Alhamdulillah, the voting process went smoothly and did not take long,” he said, after voting for the Stulang state seat.

Johor Media Club (KMJ) president Mohamad Fauzi Ishak, 55, who is also the president of the Malaysian Federation of Media Clubs (GKMM), voted for the Kempas state constituency at SK Kempas at 10.30 am.

He said many media practitioners chose to vote in person despite being eligible for postal voting to experience polling day alongside the public.

Not missing the opportunity was Bernama TV cameraman Danish Hedra, who fulfilled his obligation as a voter at Kolej Vokasional Muar polling centre for the Simpang Jeram state seat before returning to his duty.

He said that no matter how busy assignment commitments are in reporting election developments, one’s responsibility as a citizen remains a top priority.
