UMNO received 662 motions for its 2025 assembly, with none calling for a withdrawal from the unity government or concerning cooperation with PAS.
KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO has received no motions proposing the party withdraw from the Unity Government ahead of its 2025 General Assembly.
UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party gathered 662 motions from 175 of its 191 divisions for the upcoming meeting.
He stated the motions predominantly cover politics, religion, education, and the economy.
“The ‘hottest’ or most frequently submitted motions by the divisions is the demand for justice and a full pardon for Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,” he said during a press conference.
Asyraf Wajdi noted the divisions also submitted no motions regarding cooperation with other political parties, including PAS.
He added the party will not stop any spokesperson from raising views or grassroots sentiments during the debates.
The 2025 UMNO General Assembly will be held from January 14 to 17 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
A total of 6,412 delegates have registered for the main assembly and its wings.
Representatives from MCA, MIC, and Friends of Barisan Nasional will attend the opening ceremony.
Asyraf Wajdi confirmed no representatives from other Unity Government parties were invited.
He said the focus is entirely on internal party matters to allow open dialogue.
The assembly will begin on January 13 with preliminary programmes including academic forums.
The simultaneous opening of the Wanita, Youth, and Puteri assemblies is scheduled for January 14 at Dewan Merdeka.
The main UMNO General Assembly will officially commence on January 16 with a flag-raising ceremony.
