Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says no timeline for Negeri Sembilan impasse, with Aminuddin to continue duties amid constitutional process.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stated that no specific timeline has been established to resolve the constitutional impasse in Negeri Sembilan, as the administration must navigate the state’s unique legal and traditional frameworks.
Speaking to reporters today, Anwar emphasised that all parties must be afforded the necessary space to deliberate in accordance with the state’s constitution.
He stated that matters involving the appointment or resignation of the Menteri Besar are complex, requiring the direct involvement of the Undang Yang Empat.
“Decisions involving the appointment of a Menteri Besar must involve the four Undang. Similarly, any resignation must adhere to that same process. It is not as straightforward as it may appear,” Anwar said.
The Prime Minister stressed that the state government has been instructed to function as usual following the recent royal command.
He clarified that the legal process is not being obstructed and will be allowed to proceed through the proper channels.
Amid the heightened political climate, Anwar cautioned against excessive speculation and the politicisation of the crisis, urging leaders to focus on national harmony and economic recovery.
“This is not the time for political contestation or conflict. At this stage, I have instructed the Menteri Besar to proceed with his duties as usual. There is no issue of an immediate change in leadership,” he said.
Anwar reiterated that the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar and the Undang must be respected, noting that his discussions with the ruler suggest the administration should remain operational while the due legal processes take their course.
Addressing rumours of shifting alliances or independent political moves by certain factions, the Anwar advised the public and political players to remain grounded.
“Do not make excessive assumptions in politics. Based on the advice of the Ruler, the instruction is for the administration to continue its work uninterrupted,” he added.
