Pakatan Harapan’s Gum-Gum candidate Abdul Said Pimping reports strong Chinese community backing and pledges to champion fishermen’s welfare.
SANDAKAN: Pakatan Harapan candidate Abdul Said Pimping has reported an encouraging response from the Chinese community towards his campaign programmes in the Gum-Gum state seat.
Abdul Said said he would continue organising small-group ceramah sessions to explain his strengths as a PH candidate now part of the Federal Government.
He expressed confidence that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Sandakan today would further boost Chinese community support for PH in the area.
“As we begin the second week of our campaign, I have observed an encouraging response from the Chinese community to the events we’ve held,” he told reporters.
“The Prime Minister’s presence today is expected to further bolster this momentum of support.”
As former Libaran Fishermen Association chairman, Abdul Said pledged to champion traditional fishermen’s welfare and ensure they receive government assistance.
He specifically mentioned securing fishermen’s cost-of-living allowance and equipment aid for the community.
Abdul Said is determined to continue serving as the voice of Gum-Gum people if he receives the mandate in the state election.
Records show approximately 1,600 fishermen operate in Sandakan, with nearly 800 based in the Gum-Gum area.
The construction of two fishermen’s jetties in Kampung Sungai Beruang and Kampung Kuala Gum-Gum will provide significant landing facilities for marine catches.
The RM200,000 project under the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority represents a major infrastructure improvement for local fishermen.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend several programmes in Sandakan including engagement sessions with youth and the Chinese community.
The Election Commission has set November 29 as polling day for the 17th Sabah State Election.
