PH to focus on internal strength, not rivals’ issues, in elections

Pakatan Harapan will not exploit other parties’ weaknesses in upcoming polls, says Melaka PKR strategy director, focusing instead on grassroots work and unity

MELAKA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will not exploit the weaknesses or internal problems of other parties in facing upcoming state and general elections.

Melaka PKR strategy director Mohd Radzmin Roslan said true success depends on the party’s internal strength and its ability to offer the best service to the people.

“Division within or problems from other parties may have a slight impact, but we cannot rely on that,” he told the media at the Melaka Media Appreciation Event in Klebang.

He stated the foundation of strength is work on the ground and unity within the party itself.

The main focus is now on strengthening unity among PH component parties and streamlining the election machinery.

Mohd Radzmin added that seat negotiations must be conducted maturely and prudently at the leadership level.

Commenting on campaign strategy, he said PH will emphasise an approach based on people’s issues.

These issues particularly involve the cost of living, job opportunities and the welfare of the local community.

Young voters and fence-sitters have been identified as the main target groups for the election strategy.

“Young voters, including the Undi 18 group, are an important segment,” said Mohd Radzmin, who is also secretary of the PKR Tangga Batu branch.

He said the party needs to approach them with a fresher approach and a clear message.

The same applies to fence-sitting voters who assess the coalition based on performance and sincerity.

The five-year term of the Melaka state assembly ends in December.
