Sabah CM Hajiji faces five-cornered fight for Sulaman seat

Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor contests Sulaman seat against four challengers from BN, Warisan, PN and PIS in five-cornered battle.

SABAH: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor faces a five-cornered contest for the Sulaman seat in the 17th Sabah State Election.

Returning officer Ibrahim Terki announced the contest at the nomination centre in Dewan Seri Sulaman, Tuaran.

Hajiji, who chairs Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, arrived at 9am accompanied by proposer Datuk Abdul Kassim Razali and seconder Sylvia Belinggi.

The incumbent won Sulaman in the last state election with a 3,099-vote majority.

His challengers include Barisan Nasional newcomer Dr Shahnon Rizal Thaijuddin and Mokhtar Hussin from Parti Warisan.

Perikatan Nasional candidate Tiaminah @ Siti Aminah Ele and Parti Impian Sabah’s Pajudin Nordin complete the five-cornered fight.

GRS supporters earlier marched from the party’s Sulaman headquarters to accompany Hajiji and three other candidates.

The procession included Datuk Joniston Bangkuai contesting Kiulu and Datuk Jasnih Daya for Pantai Dalit.

Associate Professor Dr Bonaventure Bonaface, standing in Tamparuli, also joined the march.

Sulaman constituency has 18,352 registered voters for this election. – Bernama
