Sabah state election begins with nomination day tomorrow

Sabah’s 17th state election begins with nomination day tomorrow, featuring 73 seats and 1.78 million registered voters across multiple parties.

SABAH: The candidate lineup for Sabah’s 17th state election will be finalised tomorrow during nomination day.

Prospective candidates have one hour from 9am to 10am to submit their nomination papers to returning officers.

The Election Commission has allocated a 14-day campaign period ending at 11.59pm on November 28.

EC recommends candidates complete forms and make deposit payments in advance to streamline the nomination process.

A total of 1,784,843 registered voters are eligible to participate in this state election.

This includes 1,760,417 ordinary voters alongside military and police personnel with their spouses.

PKR has announced 10 candidates while DAP will field seven, both contesting under the Pakatan Harapan banner.

Barisan Nasional coalition will compete for 45 seats through its component parties.

Gabungan Rakyat Sabah alliance plans to contest 55 seats across multiple member parties.

Parti Warisan, Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah and Parti Impian Sabah each aim to contest all 73 seats.

Perikatan Nasional will compete for 41 seats in the upcoming election.

STAR and KDM parties have each announced candidates for 40 seats respectively.

Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri will field 26 candidates while SAPP contests six seats.

Seventeen independent candidates under the ‘Gelombang Hitam’ movement will also participate. – Bernama
