UMNO leaders are still mourning Bung Moktar Radin, with no discussion on his replacement at the latest Supreme Council meeting
KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO is not yet prepared to discuss a replacement for the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
UMNO Puteri chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi said the party’s Supreme Council meeting today was a regular monthly gathering without any talks on a successor.
She confirmed the meeting did touch on the recently concluded Sabah state election.
Before proceedings began, UMNO leaders held brief prayers to honour Bung Moktar’s contributions.
“Many leaders are still sad over his death, we are not ready to discuss his replacement,” she told reporters after the meeting at Menara Dato’ Onn.
The meeting was chaired by UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and attended by senior party figures.
Bung Moktar, the Sabah UMNO chairman, died on December 5 in a Kota Kinabalu private hospital.
His passing came several days after he won the Lamag state seat in the Sabah election.
The Election Commission announced a special meeting on December 16 to discuss by-elections for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and the Lamag state seat. – Bernama
