The EC reports a 33% turnout in Kinabatangan and 30% in Lamag by-elections as of 11 am, lower than the recent Sabah state election.
KINABATANGAN: Voter turnout in the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election stood at 33% as of 11 am today.
Election Commission chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said 15,943 voters had cast their ballots from the total electorate.
He said turnout for the concurrent Lamag state by-election was 30%, with 4,042 votes recorded.
Ramlan attributed the relatively low figures partly to voters currently outside the constituencies.
He noted the turnout was also lower than during the same period in the 17th Sabah State Election last November.
“I hope voters will take this opportunity to come out and vote in greater numbers,” he said.
Ramlan made the remarks after observing the polling process at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Garam II.
