‘Public will see this as about you too’: Rafizi warns Anwar over Azam Baki controversy

Rafizi Ramli warns Anwar Ibrahim the public may link him to Azam Baki if no action is taken against the MACC chief

KUALA LUMPUR: “If you do not act, if Datuk Seri Anwar continues to defend Azam Baki… the public will see this not just as about Azam Baki, but also connected to Anwar Ibrahim,” PKR leader Datuk Rafizi Ramli warned.

Speaking at the “Tangkap Azam Baki” rally, the Pandan MP urged decisive action against the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief, citing concerns over possible influence of organised networks within government institutions.

“The key concern from these revelations is that elements of organised crime could be influencing enforcement,” he said.

“I do not care which government is in power, or who is Prime Minister, but if such networks control major bodies, the country is at risk,” Rafizi added.

Rafizi also cautioned against political inconsistency.

“When governments change, if we keep adjusting our positions to fit in, eventually the public loses trust in politicians.

“No matter the party, people will stop believing us. Many say one thing before entering government and another after taking office,” he added, referring to politicians who fail to stay true to their words.

He also highlighted systemic flaws that make it difficult to protect ordinary citizens.

“If this continues, no matter how many elections we go through, it will be hard to fix the system.

“Even ordinary citizens, when targeted, can be dragged into cases, falsely accused, pressured, and have decades of work jeopardised. If the system cannot protect (them), how can it protect the rest?”

Rafizi points a warning to the Prime Minister saying that if he does not act, public trust on him will be tarnished.

“If you do not act, if Datuk Seri Anwar continues to defend Azam Baki, the public will see this not just as about Azam Baki, but as connected to Anwar Ibrahim.

“We are persistent because we love the country. Even if he dislikes us, we still maintain some goodwill, so that when the public is angry, he does not fall together with Azam Baki.”
