Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim credits good governance and political stability for the ringgit’s strong performance, now among the best in Asia.
BUKIT MERTAJAM: The ringgit’s position as one of Asia’s best-performing currencies demonstrates the success of good governance, political stability and strong investor confidence.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the currency’s strength results from continuous government efforts to ensure national peace and efficient administration.
He also cited firm action against corruption and misappropriation as key factors.
“Our ringgit is among the best-performing in Asia — not just compared with neighbouring countries, but across Asia,” Anwar said.
He stated that safeguarding the country’s progress requires hard work and starts with principled governance.
“That’s why I say it starts with governance — there must be no extra money being pocketed, no skimming, no taking of commissions,” he added.
Anwar was speaking at the MADANI Cultural Carnival and Kenduri Rakyat Penang 2026 in Permatang Pasir.
On Friday, the ringgit broke through the significant psychological level of 4.00 against the US dollar.
It reached 3.9992, its highest level in more than seven years.
The ringgit last traded at a similar level on June 18, 2018, at 3.9960/9990.
