Police ready for Sabah state election despite monsoon season, with over 9,000 personnel deployed for nomination, early voting and polling.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have incorporated monsoon season considerations into their preparations for the upcoming Sabah state election.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed the Royal Malaysia Police’s contingency planning addresses potential weather disruptions during the electoral process.

He revealed that more than 9,000 officers and personnel have been assigned to election duties across the state.

The Sabah election schedule includes nomination day on November 15, early voting on November 25, and polling day on November 29.

“As we all know, the northeast monsoon is also expected to hit,” Mohd Khalid said when met at a Kuala Lumpur Police community programme.

“Preparations continue to ensure that if rain or storms occur while the election is underway, we are ready.”

He expressed confidence that police would make the best possible preparations for any eventuality.

The IGP spoke following an event at Masjid Al-Sultan Abdullah in Presint Merduka 118.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus also attended the programme.

Senior officers from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor police contingents joined independent preacher Habib Ali Zainal Abidin Al Hamid at the gathering.

Fadil earlier described the event as a Kuala Lumpur Police initiative to strengthen community bonds through appreciation of Prophet Muhammad’s teachings. – Bernama
