Sabah tables RM6.4 billion surplus budget for 2026

Sabah’s 2026 budget projects RM6.43 billion revenue with a RM28 million surplus, focusing on development and public welfare.

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has tabled a RM6.402 billion budget for 2026, projecting a modest surplus.

Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun announced an estimated state revenue of RM6.43 billion for the coming year.

This results in a projected surplus of RM28 million for Budget 2026.

“Although this budget records a slight decrease compared to 2025, after taking into account the estimated revenue that can be collected, the Sabah Budget 2026 still records a surplus of RM28 million,” said Masidi, who is also the state finance minister.

He presented the budget, themed ‘Driving Development, Prioritising the People’s Well-Being’, at the state legislative assembly.

Masidi stated that budget strategies were formulated through engagement sessions with ministries and departments.

The planning also considered various economic indicators and uncertain global projections for the coming year.

He added that the budget accounts for new programmes under the first year of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
