Schoolboy dies after drowning in water confidence programme

11-year-old special needs student dies after drowning incident during water confidence programme at Desa Tasik Sports Complex pool.

KUALA LUMPUR: An 11-year-old schoolboy has died following a drowning incident during a water confidence support programme.

The incident occurred last Wednesday at the Desa Tasik Sports Complex Swimming Pool in Sungai Besi.

The student was from the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI) at a national school in Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed police received a report on the same day.

The victim received two days of treatment at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

He was pronounced dead at 2.30 pm yesterday.

The student was buried at the As-Syuhada Muslim Cemetery in Sungai Udang, Melaka.

Further investigations into the incident are ongoing according to police. – Bernama
