Tiong urges Sibu Chinese community to champion local tourism

Tourism Minister Tiong King Sing calls for unity to promote Sibu’s attractions for Visit Malaysia 2026, announcing RM100,000 support for community association.

SIBU: Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has called on the Chinese community here to strengthen unity and jointly promote local tourism potential ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.

He said close collaboration between the community, businesses, government and visitors is essential to develop Sibu into a vibrant and attractive destination.

Tiong stressed that such cooperation can stimulate the local economy and ensure tourism benefits are widely enjoyed.

He was speaking at the 2026 Chinese New Year Open House organised by the United Chinese Associations (UCA) Sibu Division.

The Minister also announced an allocation of RM100,000 for UCA Sibu to support its community unity and development programmes.

He highlighted the vital role of Chinese community organisations in fostering unity, advancing education and preserving cultural heritage.

Tiong said associations should optimise resources and enhance cooperation, including through active youth and women’s wings to ensure leadership continuity.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining social harmony in Malaysia’s multiracial society.

“Only through unity and cooperation among all communities can we safeguard the nation’s political, economic and social stability,” he said.

Tiong also urged the public to act as tourism ambassadors by promoting Sarawak’s unique attractions.

He said a friendly and professional approach in every interaction would help position Sibu as a preferred tourist destination.
