KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a tropical depression advisory for waters near Dungun, Terengganu.
The weather system was detected at latitude 4.8 north and longitude 106.8 east, approximately 377 kilometres northeast of Dungun.
MetMalaysia confirmed the storm is moving east-northeast at 15 kilometres per hour.
Maximum sustained winds have reached 56 kilometres per hour.

These conditions may generate strong winds and rough seas over the South China Sea.
The department advised mariners and coastal communities to exercise caution.
Fishermen have been urged to postpone voyages until weather conditions improve.
