Two motorcyclists die after being hit by lorry

JOHOR BAHRU: Two motorcyclists, believed to be on their way to work in Singapore, were killed after being hit by a lorry at the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza southbound, Iskandar Puteri, early this morning.

Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP Rahmat Ariffin said the 5.50 am incident caused both male victims, aged 49 and 54, to be seriously injured and died at the scene.

He said the 45-year-old lorry driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle due to brake problems. The lorry also collided with a trailer and a bus ferrying 29 passengers.

Rahmat said the driver of the lorry suffered chest pain due to the crash and received treatment at a hospital.

“However, the drivers of the trailer and the bus, as well as all 29 bus passengers, escaped unhurt.

“All bus passengers have also been transferred to another bus and resumed their journey to Singapore,” he said in a statement today.

The bodies of the two motorcyclists were taken to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for further action and the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.–Bernama
