Universities get online learning flexibility for flood season

MOHE prepares for year-end floods, allowing universities in high-risk states to switch to online classes if needed.

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Higher Education has started early preparations for potential year-end floods, especially involving universities in flood-prone states.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said annual reminders and procedural preparations are carried out for institutions in East Coast states, Sabah and Sarawak.

He said universities identified as at-risk have been granted flexibility to conduct online learning if floods disrupt on-campus teaching.

“As we know, floods have occurred frequently from last year to this year, and we always issue reminders and make preparations, particularly in states that are often affected,” he told reporters after inspecting preparations for the Putrajaya Festival of Ideas.

Zambry confirmed that conducting online classes is among the approved procedures during flood situations.

“That is one of our procedures. If such a situation arises, online learning can be implemented,” he said.

He added that flexibility has been given to universities according to their discretion and specific needs. – Bernama
