UPSR and PT3 exam review expected to be completed this year

The review on reinstating UPSR and PT3 exams is set to be completed this year, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

PUTRAJAYA: A review on the need to reinstate the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) examinations is expected to be completed this year.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the process would begin once the appointment of members to the National Education Advisory Council (MPPK) is finalised.

“The MPPK is currently in the process of being appointed. In terms of preparation, we are ready,” she told reporters after an event at Sekolah Kebangsaan Presint 9 (1).

She added they were waiting for the council appointments before completing the review as soon as possible.

UPSR was abolished in 2021, followed by PT3 in 2022, with both replaced by the School-Based Assessment (PBS) system.

Fadhlina said the review followed requests and feedback from parents and educators regarding the need for both assessments.

Her ministry had received views from various stakeholders, prompting a re-examination before any major policy decisions.

“I do not see any issue with conducting the review as there have been requests for it,” she said.

This shows the government listens and adopts a consultative approach, she added.

On the distribution of Early Schooling Aid (BAP), Fadhlina said the ministry aimed to complete the process nationwide this week.

Some flexibility was allowed for schools in rural areas and those with large student populations.

The nationwide distribution has so far been running smoothly.
