UTM thanks Johor MB for support in higher education and community projects

UTM appreciates Johor MB’s commitment, including RM500,000 for hall upgrades and support for talent development and community well-being initiatives.

JOHOR BAHRU: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has expressed gratitude to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi for his ongoing dedication to higher education and public welfare.

The university specifically thanked the state government for a RM500,000 allocation to upgrade UTM’s Dewan Sultan Iskandar.

This upgrade aims to provide modern facilities for official events, academic programmes, and community activities.

UTM also welcomed the strengthening of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone partnership through the Johor Talent Development Skills Centre.

The university stated this collaboration opens major opportunities for talent development, high-impact research, and technological innovation.

Support for the Bangsa Johor Bahagia pilot projects, which focus on community well-being through education and social engagement, was also acknowledged.

“We are fully committed to leading in academia to support Johor’s economic agenda through our expertise and strategic research,” UTM said in a statement.

The university pledged to continue contributing through studies, specialised knowledge, and community empowerment programmes for Johor’s people.

UTM also expressed appreciation for the Johor government’s Special Financial Assistance to federal civil servants in the state.

This assistance highlights the close cooperation between state and federal governments in safeguarding public servants’ welfare.

UTM Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim personally acknowledged Onn Hafiz’s leadership and commitment.

“The concern and support of the Menteri Besar have provided a significant boost to UTM’s efforts,” Mohd Shafry said.

He added that UTM will continue as the state’s strategic partner in driving impactful development agendas.

The university remains committed to its role as a leading research university supporting Johor’s sustainable and competitive future.
