Woman crashes car into laundry shop after stepping on throttle

A woman in her 50s accidentally pressed the accelerator while making a U-turn, causing her car to crash into a laundry shop in Tumpat, Kelantan.

KOTA BHARU: A woman is believed to have accidentally pressed the accelerator while making a U-turn which caused the car to crash into a laundry shop at Pasar Besar Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat, yesterday.

Tumpat district police chief ACP Mohd Khairi Shafie said the 11.20 am incident involved a Honda City driven by a local woman in her 50s.

He said initial investigations found that the woman was driving from Jalan Puteri Saadong towards the laundry premises before making a U-turn at the scene of the incident.

“However, it is believed that the driver involved accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle she was driving to swerve and crash into the glass door of the laundry store.

“As a result of the incident, the glass door of the premises was broken but no injuries were reported,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Khairi said his party received a report on the incident at about 12.40 pm from the 32-year-old owner of the laundry shop.

He said the case was being investigated in accordance with Regulation 10, Traffic Rules 1959 and members of the public with information regarding the incident were asked to contact the Tumpat district police headquarters (IPD) at 09-7257222 to assist in the investigation.
