The Works Ministry says potholes on federal roads are repaired within 24 hours using the MyJalan KKR app, with over 6,000 complaints recorded since 2023.
PETALING JAYA: The Public Works Department has said it is taking proactive measures to ensure potholes and damaged roads on federal highways are repaired promptly, amid concerns over safety of road users.
Responding to a question from Senator Manolan Mohamad, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the repairs are tracked through the Pothole Monitoring System app, which ensures all registered potholes are patched quickly.
“Complaints received through the MyJalan KKR app are verified on-site by technical staff, with repairs carried out within 24 hours.
“(The department) monitors road conditions continuously and aims to repair potholes within 24 hours of being identified, either during routine inspections or through public complaints.”
He added that according to department records, between the launch of MyJalan KKR in August 2023 and Jan 31, 2026, 6,231 complaints out of 16,671 under the ministry’s supervision were related to potholes.
“Meanwhile, 23,017 complaints out of 37,384 cases reported under the No Wrong Door system, which falls outside the ministry’s jurisdiction, involved potholes.”
Nanta emphasised that contractors and concessionaires handling road maintenance must adhere to standards and guidelines set by the department, specifically the Standard Specification for Road Works, Section 4: Flexible Pavement.
“This includes approved patching methods, use of proper materials and response times for complaints and reports.
“Surface-level potholes are patched according to standard procedures.
“However, if serious structural damage is detected, (the department) will conduct a comprehensive study and carry out repairs under the Periodic Pavement Programme with approved funding,” he minister said, adding that the ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to keeping Malaysia’s road network safe and comfortable for all users.
His was responding to concerns raised by Manolan over delays in addressing road damage, that could pose risks to public safety.
