Deputy PM Zahid begins China working visit to boost halal exports

Deputy PM Ahmad Zahid Hamidi starts four-day China visit to strengthen halal industry cooperation and bilateral trade relations.

SHANGHAI: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has begun a four-day working visit to China from today until November 7.

He is accompanied by senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies along with Malaysian small and medium enterprise representatives.

This marks his first China visit in 2025 and demonstrates Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

Wisma Putra confirmed Ahmad Zahid will officiate the Malaysia International Halal Showcase Shanghai 2025 during his visit.

The Rural and Regional Development Minister will also meet key stakeholders in China’s halal sector to strengthen Malaysia’s global halal leadership position.

China ranked as Malaysia’s second-largest halal export destination in 2024 with total exports valued at RM7.04 billion.

The delegation will participate in high-level discussions focusing on bilateral cooperation in the halal industry and Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

Ahmad Zahid is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the 8th China International Import Expo during his visit.

He will officiate at the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia Pavilion at the expo.

Several Memoranda of Understanding between Malaysian and Chinese companies will be signed during the visit.

These agreements will cover cooperation in the halal industry, trade, and investment sectors.

China has maintained its position as Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years since 2009.

Total bilateral trade reached RM484.12 billion in 2024, accounting for 16.8% of Malaysia’s total global trade.

Malaysia and China elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2013.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on May 31, 1974. – Bernama
