Zed Zaidi re-elected as Seniman president, outlines welfare and digital plans

Actor Zed Zaidi retains leadership of the Malaysian Artistes’ Association, pledging to focus on welfare, digitalisation and a new skills standard.

KUALA LUMPUR: Actor Zed Zaidi has been re-elected as president of the Malaysian Artistes’ Association (Seniman) for the 2025-2028 term.

He secured the position following a vote at the association’s 24th annual general meeting.

Zed Zaidi said his re-election demonstrates members’ trust in leadership based on capability rather than mere popularity.

He told Bernama that since first leading Seniman in 2012, the focus has consistently been on member welfare.

This includes securing jobs, housing and social protection for members.

The association also advocates for policies that directly impact the livelihoods of those in the creative arts industry.

Key plans for the new term include developing a National Occupational Skills Standard for the creative sector.

Seniman also aims to establish a dedicated royalty collection body for actors.

Another priority is the digitalisation of the association’s management systems, particularly for membership registration.

The creation of a comprehensive talent bank is also on the agenda.

Zed Zaidi added that Seniman is expanding its volunteer membership within the Malaysian Civil Defence Force.

This expansion is through the Creative Arts Brigade, which aims to recruit 1,200 members to assist during disasters.

The initiative aligns with the vision of Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Rena Tan was elected as the association’s new deputy president at the AGM.

Hafiz Nafiah was elected secretary-general, with Salman Al-Farisi as assistant secretary.

Zarina Mohd Nor was elected treasurer for the term.

Committee members elected include Datuk Subash Sundamoorty, Datuk Fizz Fairuz and Datuk Zamshuri Ramli.

Lisdawati, Ezlynn Arifin, Zizan Nin and Marisa Yasmin were also elected to the committee.

Samsuri and Sharifah Muhamad were appointed as auditors for the 2025-2028 term.
