Namewee tests negative for drugs, prosecution may drop charge

No drugs were found in Namewee’s system, and the prosecution is expected to drop the charge, court hears.

PETALING JAYA: The magistrates’ court was informed today that Namewee’s system showed no traces of drugs.

Speaking to reporters after the mention of the case before two separate magistrate courts, Namewee’s lawyer Joshua Tay, said the urine test report submitted by the prosecution showed no traces of drugs in his client’s system.

He added that the prosecution is expected to drop the charge soon, New Straits Times reported.

Namewee, 42, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, is facing a charge of self-administering amphetamine, methamphetamine, THC and ketamine.

The charge is under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000, or imprisonment of up to two years and supervision for between two and three years upon conviction.

On a separate drug possession charge, Tay noted that they had yet to receive the updated chemist report from the prosecution.

Namewee is accused of possessing Ecstasy weighing an estimated 5.12 grams in a hotel room along Jalan Conlay on the evening of Oct 22.

This charge falls under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, punishable under Section 39A(1), which carries a jail term of two to five years and whipping between three and nine strokes.
